The partner universities of the ESRC Scottish Graduate School of Social Science information science pathway have hosted an annual doctoral colloquium (iDocQ) since 2011. The colloquium is aimed at students studying towards PhDs in information science and other related disciplines. This year’s event takes place on Thursday 23rd June 2016 at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. The event is suitable for doctoral students at all stages of their studies. Attendees will be offered the opportunity to showcase their work to leading academics, researchers and other doctoral candidates as well as networking opportunities throughout.

The 2016 programme will include:

  • A keynote presentation
  • An opportunity to network during a PhD related exercise
  • PechaKucha 20x20 presentations
  • Break-out workshop sessions for different challenges of the doctoral journey
  • Q+A session where students can anonymously ask questions to the panel of academic pathway members

PechaKucha 20x20 presentations are an opportunity for delegates to present 20 slides or images each for 20 seconds. This can focus on a project that has been recently completed, in progress or being planned. Projects whereby funding, collaborators or participants are being sought can also be presented. Please indicate if you would like to deliver a 20x20 presentation and we will contact you with further details. The Scottish Graduate School of Social Science is the UK's largest facilitator of funding, training and support for doctoral students in social science. By combining the expertise of sixteen universities across Scotland, the school facilitates world-class PhD research. The school is funded jointly by the Economic and Social Research Council and the Scottish Funding Council.

SGSSS is a highly attractive environment for doctoral research. Not only do our partner universities offer an excellent research environment, we also offer comprehensive and world-class research training in a number of discipline-specific and interdisciplinary pathways. In addition, the school manages a programme of advanced training courses and an annual summer school which together offers our students further opportunities to develop their research, knowledge exchange and transferable professional skills.

At the heart of the SGSSS is the Doctoral Training Partnership (formerly the Doctoral Training Centre) in Scotland. The SGSSS was established in 2011 and is the biggest of 14 Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) accredited DTPs in the United Kingdom. The bid for renewed funding has been successful and from 1 October 2017 the SGSSS will be one of the ESRC's 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP)
